Jayne Allen's series about a black woman fighting for and defining her dreams day by day is a refreshing but poignant reminder of what it really costs to "have it all" as a black woman in this world. "Black Girls Must Die Exhausted" is the first of three novels in the series and it definitely starts things off strong and leaves you wanting more.

Read MoreI wrote this poem in college, at a time in my life when I felt the least understood and most under-served. I like writing things that get me out of my immediate head space and into deeper thoughts so I can process the "why" of what I'm feeling and thinking. This poem did that for me.
